Cooking Class and Lunch
Spend your time by learning how to cook traditional Swahili food with a professional Chef and enjoy the delicious meal that you have prepared yourself. Traditionally, Swahili, live near the Indian Ocean, their main food is fish and rice. Their favorite dishes are Pilau and Wali. Pilau is a rice dish that is cooked with a variety of exotic spices such as ginger root and garlic. Other ingredients sometimes used in Pilau include beef, tomatoes, potatoes onions and salad oil.
Depart from the pier and drive to The Cooking Club a melting pot of culinary activity. On arrival you will be met by your professional chef ready to start cooking your own food. The lesson will take you 2 - 3 hours. Afterwards enjoy the fruits of your labor and enjoy lunch.
Tinga Tinga
After lunch and a 30 minute drive visit Tinga Tinga which displays traditional art that is unique to Tanzania. It is a painting style that developed in the second half of the 20th century in the Dar es Salaam area and later spread to most of East Africa. The genre is named after its founder, Tanzanian painter Edward Said Tingatinga. During the visit you will see the artists working on their colorful designs be it on canvas, household utensils, letter openers and even key rings.
Thereafter, a 30 minute return drive back to the pier.

Please Note: This tour requires a minimal of waking and standing, wit a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and at the cooking venue. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair but able to negotiate without assistance a few steps. We recommend guests wear comfortable shoes and casual, light layered clothing, sunglasses, hats and sun lotion. Guests must be aware that equipment and guides may not be up to Western standards but are the best available in this particular area; air conditioning in tour vehicles cannot be guaranteed. Guests are recommended to please ensure to first ask locals if they wish to take their photo. No photography of police/army or White House is allowed. The climate is extremely hot & humid, therefore a risk of dehydration - guests should drink plenty of water. Credit Cards may not be accepted therefore guests should carry USD or local currency for any purchase.
