Delight in this short but sweet half-day tour that includes a quaint village and a syrup farm tour. On this tour of taste and local village life begin with a 20-minute drive through the forest roads of Saaremaa, stopping first at Leedri village.
Leedri stands out among other villages on Saaremaa with its well-preserved historical road network and the structure of green fields and dry-stone walls. The village was formed in the late 13th century around Lümanda manor. To this day, Leedri is a viable village, where most farms have permanent residents and the old-time village culture still lives on.
Visit the home factory of Saaremaa Juniper Syrup and taste some of its produce. Juniper syrup is an Estonian cousin to the world-famous maple syrup. Junipers are widely spread through Estonian coastal areas, especially on the islands. Nowadays, juniper oil is used in aroma lamps for powering and healing reasons. The berries are used as food, and in the production of gin. At the factory, you have a chance to taste products made of juniper. In addition to tasting, get the chance to visit the home garden of the owners and see their 100-year old smoke sauna.
Next, continue with a drive to Lümanda Village and visit its famous Food House, situated in an old church school. This is the perfect place to get a real taste of homemade cake and tea or coffee. Enjoy authentic Saaremaa farm food before returning to port.
