Via Appia & Minturnae

Depart the pier by coach for a 45-minute drive along the legendary Via Appia, the major Roman road that once connected Rome to southern Italy. Your destination is Minturnae, a thriving Roman colony established in 232 BC along the Garigliano River. The site preserves one of the most remarkable urban layouts of antiquity.

Archaeological Area

With your guide, walk through the excavations to discover the remains of temples, thermal baths, the ancient forum, and the bustling marketplace. Please note: This tour involves extensive walking for approximately 2 miles (about 3.2 km), at times over uneven, cobblestone, and uphill surfaces, with steps to negotiate inside the archaeological area. It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or guests who utilize a wheelchair. Comfortable clothing, flat closed-toe walking shoes, a hat, and sun protection are recommended. The archaeological site of Minturno is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays; therefore this tour cannot be offered on these days. The tour sequence may vary.
