Journey to the Lakes Region and Garibaldi Pass

Embark on a scenic journey along National Route 3 toward the stunning Lakes Region, crossing vast peat valleys and ascending the majestic Andes via the breathtaking Garibaldi Pass. About an hour into the drive, you'll arrive at a warm, family-run mountain lodge beside Laguna Escondida, approximately 55 km from Ushuaia. Here, your horseback riding adventure begins, with a skilled guide selecting the perfect criollo horse based on your experience to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride.

Horseback Riding Through Nothofagus Forests and Lakeside Views

Ride for about an hour beneath a canopy of native Nothofagus trees, immersing yourself in the region’s pristine natural beauty. The trail follows an old section of Route 3 to the shores of Escondido Lake, where you’ll pause to appreciate the stunning views of lakes, forests, valleys, and mountains. Afterward, enjoy a traditional local snack at the lodge before heading back to Ushuaia, bringing with you lasting memories of this authentic wilderness experience in one of the world’s southernmost frontiers.

Please note: This tour travels through steep and rough terrain and is recommended for guests in good physical condition. This tour is not suitable for guests with back or neck problems, or for those who may be pregnant.  We suggest guests dress in seasonal clothing with long pants and wear closed-toe shoes and sun protection.  Minimum age to participate is 6 with an accompanying parent. Participants must weight no more than 220 pounds (100 kg / 15.74 stone). A signed waiver is required to participate in the tour. The travel time to and from the refuge is about 1 hour each way.
