Excursion Views of algar do carvão tour at Praia da Vitória

Depart from the pier in direction to Algar do Carvão. During the approximately 30-minute drive passing by breathtaking views, pause for some photographs at the bealvedere of Serra do Cume. After the short stop, your journey will continue to visit Algar do Carvão, an ancient volcanic vent located in the center of the island of Terceira, which lies within the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.  The cave is at an altitude of about 550 meters above sea level, and it is possible to descend about one hundred meters into the earth where there is a pool of crystal-clear water.  The cave itself is remarkable for the unique mineralogical characteristics of its silicate stalactites.  

After visiting Algar do Carvão re-board your coach and commence the return journey to Praia da Vitoria passing by Caldeira Guilherme Moniz the bulls habitat.

Please note: This tour involves extensive amount of walking on paved and unpaved surfaces including about 150-180 steps to visit the cave. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, non-slip closed-toe walking shoes are recommended. Cave is very humid and steps may be slippery. Due to the popularity of sight visited, some crowding may be anticipated. Guests must be at least 6 years of age to participate on this tour.
