Discover Vilsandi National Park, the oldest protected natural area in the Baltic countries and one of the oldest in Europe. Take a moderate hike of this park, which boasts extremely rich biodiversity and well-preserved examples of traditional lifestyle. Vilsandi provides habitats for birds (247 species), Baltic grey seals, butterflies, dragonflies, wild orchids (36 species). There are Silurian fossil cliffs and a rich cultural heritage. It has been a protected area for fauna, flora and geology since 1924
Begin your 5km/3-mile hike at the Vilsandi National Park information point, which is located in the Loona Manor complex. Visit the Limestone Museum and then begin your easy walk through the old forest to the site of an ancient harbor. There is a view to the neighboring harbor of Papissaare, with the ruins of seaplane hangars (1913-14), Vilsandi lighthouse and surrounding islets.
Back on the old coastal road, have your cameras ready, there is an opportunity to spot wild orchids and enjoy scenic views.
