Depart the pier for a short drive to the Cape St.?Blaize viewpoint, situated on a dramatic coastal headland. From the paved viewing areas, enjoy uninterrupted views of Mossel Bay, the Indian Ocean, and the rugged cliffs that define this picturesque coastline. In the right season, the lookout is one of South Africa’s best land-based whale-watching spots.
Dias Museum Complex, Maritime Gallery
Continue downhill toward the heart of town for a guided exploration of the Dias Museum Complex. Step inside the maritime gallery to see the full-scale wooden replica of the caravel used by the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias during his 1488 landing. Outside, visit the historic Post Office Tree — a centuries-old milkwood once used by passing sailors to leave letters for ships travelling onward.
Shell Museum, Coastal Biodiversity
Within the same complex, the adjacent Shell Museum houses one of the region’s largest collections of shells and marine specimens. Exhibits highlight the area’s rich coastal biodiversity and centuries-old connection to the sea. Your visit concludes with a relaxing refreshment break at Café Gannet before returning to the pier with a short drive.

The lighthouse tower itself requires stairs and is not accessible, but the paved viewpoint areas used on this tour are fully suitable for guests with limited mobility. Accessible restrooms are available at the viewpoint restaurant area and within the museum grounds. Comfortable footwear is recommended.
