Old Town of Gdansk

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to the Old Town of Gdansk. En route, pass through the suburban and commercial sections of Gdansk, and by the Gdansk Shipyards and 'Solidarity Square'. Upon arrival in the Old Town, begin your guided walking tour. The city's 1,000 years of history has left a collection of marvellous buildings and monuments designed in the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles, and decorated with elaborate facades crowned by a myriad of ornate gables. Pass by the Town Hall, Long Market and beautiful, 15th-century merchants' palace of Artus Court. After a brief pause at Neptune's Fountain, stroll down to the waterfront canal before turning up Mariacka, or 'St. Mary's Street', which delights visitors with its lively atmosphere, quaint shops and lovely terraced buildings.

St. Mary's Church

A visit is made to the Gothic-styled St. Mary's Church. The pride of Gdansk, St. Mary's is the world's largest brick church and accommodates some 25,000 worshippers. Situated in the centre of the Old Town, this medieval church took 159 years to build, and its deceivingly plain exterior belies a bright, spacious interior with large windows and more than 30 beautifully decorated chapels. The high altar displays a lovely polyptych, the floor is covered with ancient tombstones and the northern transept holds an amazing, 15th century astronomical clock, complete with the zodiac cycle and a calendar of the saints. Leaving St. Mary's Church, some free time is made available for shopping in the Old Town at your leisure before re-boarding your coach and driving back to the port.

The tour route avoids steps and stairs. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. An accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift or ramp will be used for transportation. Guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs. A minimum participation of 5 guests is required to operate the excursion at the advertised rate. Space on this tour is extremely limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment. St Mary's Church may close at short notice.
